Even the best-kept properties can show signs of wear and tear. So before you approach any agents, it’s best to spruce up your property to give yourself the best possible chance of adding value and selling your property.

First impressions are important so spruce up your property from the outside in.

Here are some top tips that don’t cost too much but can add value:

  • Mow the lawn
  • Clean the windows
  • Get your front door and path/driveway professionally cleaned

  • Declutter and tidy your house
  • Make sure anything that first attracted you to the property is still visible
  • Try to make it less personal to you to; encourage viewers to see themselves in the property
  • Prepare each room so it clearly shows its purpose
  • Hang mirrors in small areas like hallways, to add light and the illusion of space
  • Dress the beds
  • Buy fresh flowers
  • Use air fresheners/room sprays

The two rooms that are remembered the most are the kitchen and bathroom, so ensure that these two rooms are given a little extra care and attention. Remove any mould or grime that could look unsightly to prospective purchasers.

Also, be sure to note that people DO look inside cupboards! Shoving everything out of sight may seem like an instant solution before viewings, but when buyers are looking for storage space around a house, a tumbling avalanche of toys and sports gear will not leave a good impression.
